Knotty Barrell

Another one not by Petco, but one of my all-time favorite places to grab a beer and a pizza. They make Napoletana-style pizza, have one of the best tap lists in San Diego, and have the best Belgian Frites.

If you find yourself roaming around Balboa Park, make sure to swing by here for a tasty beverage and an assortment of salads, sandwiches and plates.

Stylish and modern pizza joint serving up delicious thin-crust pizza and drinks across the street from Petco.

Not exactly close to Petco, but one of our favorite Seafood restaurants in SD. The atmosphere is very low key, they've got a number of good beers, and the food is delicious. I usually get the Halibut sandwich and Mel usually get's the crab cakes. There is some indoor seating, but grab your food and take it to the patio with beautiful views of the harbor. Another tip if you're driving is to park over in the Pizza Nova/Jimmy's Famous parking lot in the 72 hour/24 hour spots and walk over.
