Goals aren't easy to come by, so when they do, it's a reason to celebrate. Some players have their own unique ways to celebrate, but this post is going to focus on a few ways that MLS stadiums celebrate. There are a few that are more theatrical than others, and a couple that are kinda famous songs or sounds. Obviously, all stadiums are gonna do something after a goal, but here are 6 of them that I wanted to highlight.
I'll start with easily the most famous of all the stadium led goal celebrations, and that is Timber Joey. The tradition actually started in the 70s, when the Timbers were playing in the North American Soccer League.
After each Timbers goal, Timber Joey uses a chainsaw to slice off a slab from a giant log. Then after the game, that slice is presented to the goal scorer.
Another very unique is Montreal's North Star Bell. The city is known for having over 100 bell towers, so it makes sense that they would have an old church bell to celebrate their goals.
Staying consistent with their nod to the hard working Midwesterners, the crew have someone jackhammer pieces of concrete. This one seems like it might be dangerous, but it's really hard to tell. At least they have eye protection, but I would be worried about my feet in those shoes.
The Revolution have had these musket men since the beginning, and they fire off some blanks after every goal. They also do it at the beginning of the game and after victories.
An excerpt from Scooter - Maria (I like it Loud) song that the Union play after their home goals. I've read a couple origin stories of how it came to be; such as their first coach, Piotr Nowak, wanting to use because it's a Borussia Moenchengladbach goal chant or former Union CEO Nick Sakiewicz hearing the song on a trip to Germany.
Staying on brand with the train theme, Atlanta blare a train horn after each home goal. I could see this getting a little annoying after a little bit.
